Growing up, my dad, brother, and I would hike camelback at sunrise or sunset. It was one of our favorite things to do together. If you’ve climbed camelback mountain before, you know it’s a quite a test of your endurance. Dad always taught my brother and I to push ourselves from a young age because with hard work and dedication, we could do anything we set our mind to. He was our greatest encourager. 6 months ago today, My dad passed away from an accident while mountain biking.
Grief has been a hard journey, but creating art and going out in nature have been strong outlets for me while mourning dad’s absence. I still hike camelback every week to feel closer to him and find myself at rest in God's presence outside. I painted this image of camelback today in honor of his 6 months, capturing the radiance of the setting sun behind the mountains as the moon peers out from the sky. I lift my eyes to see the mountains we once climbed, the sun glowing with Gods glory and His hand-painted sky. The perfect father and creator whom my dad now rests with in a beautiful place of light that never sets or fades; where peace is not just found on a journey through the mountains, but it is a final resting place. Peace has a home.
